We are excited to introduce the Inspired to Hired Programme at Inspire Cayman Training (ICT)—a dynamic initiative designed to bridge the gap between aspiring Caymanian professionals and meaningful employment opportunities. We invite you to partner with us in supporting the long-term career success of our diligently vetted candidates. This programme is specifically tailored for successful trainees of our Professional Development Training Programme, and aims to provide them with structured, hands-on work experiences that prepare them for full-time employment following their comprehensive 8-12 week professional development training.

1. What is the Internship/Apprenticeship Training Programme?

The Inspired to Hired Programme at Inspire Cayman Training (ICT) is a hands-on work experience initiative designed for students who have completed our Professional Development Training Programme. It provides practical career exposure and serves as a bridge between academic learning and industry experience, preparing students for full-time employment.

2. What is the duration of the programme?

The Inspired to Hired Programme spans three months. During this period, students are integrated into participating companies to gain industry-specific experience and develop workplace skills.

 

3. Who are the programme partners?

ICT collaborates with numerous prominent organizations, including PWC, Maples, The Fosters Group, AL Thompson, Rubis Island Waste Carriers, Logic, and the Cayman Islands Government, among others. Over 30 organizations have participated in this programme over the past five years.

 

4. What are the programme goals?

The programme aims to:

  • Enabling students to acquire an improved understanding of their abilities, interests, and educational/career aspirations.
  • Providing hands-on learning and skills development opportunities not available within the ICT structure
  • Offers a means of applying and measuring those soft/trade skills learned throughout the student’s formal training programme.
  • Delivering an avenue for students to develop the confidence, responsibility, and maturity necessary for success on the job.
  • Enhances the partnership between ICT and community by serving the needs of local business and industry.

 

5. What are the eligibility requirements for the programme?

To qualify for the Inspired to Hired Programme, students must:

  • Complete the Professional Development 8–12-week training programme.
  • Achieve a minimum of 73% in all Tools for Success-Employability Training Programme modules.
  • Maintain 80% attendance or more, with any absences being medically excused or pre-approved.
  • Maintain a drug-free status.
  • Regularly attend life skills and career coaching seminars.
  • Utilize mental health support services, if necessary, to manage any barriers.

6. What support does ICT provide during the programme?

ICT provides the following support:

  • Interview Preparation and Coordination: ICT arranges and prepares students for interviews.
  • Performance-Based Incentives: Students receive a weekly performance bonus of $200 based on attendance, participation, and overall performance.
  • Continued Professional Development: ICT offers additional training and career advancement opportunities.
  • Career Coaching: Ongoing career coaching is provided, focusing on setting and achieving career goals.
  • Life Skills Training: Includes modules on time management, financial literacy, effective communication, and work-life balance.

7. What are the responsibilities of the employers?

Employers participating in the programme are expected to:

  • Provide structured learning opportunities.
  • Designate a qualified mentor or supervisor to guide and support the intern/apprentice.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional work environment.
  • Facilitate skill development and career growth.
  • Set reasonable working hours as per the agreed-upon terms of the internship or apprenticeship.
  • Communicate any challenges or opportunities for coaching to ICT’s Talent Development Manager to ensure timely and fair intervention if necessary.

 8. What are the responsibilities of the Interns/Apprentices?

Students in the programme must:

  • Attend on Time: Maintain punctuality throughout the internship or apprenticeship.
  • Dress Appropriately: Adhere to the organization’s dress code.
  • Be Committed and Willing to Work Hard: Apply themselves diligently to all assigned tasks.
  • Be Coachable: Accept feedback and make necessary adjustments to improve performance.
  • Be Respectful: Show respect towards staff and handle equipment responsibly.

9. What should a student do if they wish to withdraw from the programme?

Students who wish to withdraw from the programme must provide a written statement explaining their reasons for withdrawal. This statement should be submitted to the Managing Director or their designate.

10. What is the process if an employer wants to dismiss a student?

Employers who wish to dismiss a student must confer with the Managing Director or their designate, providing a rationale for termination. This ensures all parties are informed, and the process is managed in a fair and consistent manner.
